چکیده

Abstract The efficiency of bio self-healing pre-cracked mortar specimens incubated in sand was investigated. investigation examined the effect soil pH representing industrially recognised classes exposure, ranging from no risk chemical attack (neutral ? 7) to very high (pH 4.5). Simultaneously, subjected fully and partially saturated cycles for 120 days resemble groundwater-level fluctuation. Bacillus subtilis with nutrients were impregnated into perlite utilised as a bacterial healing agent. agent added half comparison purposes. Mineral precipitations observed both control bio-mortar specimens, products by SEM–EDX scanning. ratio evaluated comparing (1) repair rate crack area (2) capillary water absorption sorptivity index—before after incubation. results indicated that bacteria-doped (bio-mortar) exhibited most efficient crack-healing all incubation conditions i.e. different exposure classes. In neutral soil, average ratios 38% 82%, respectively. However, decreased 43% acidic 4) compared 7). study implies is generally beneficial concrete embedded within soil; however, aggressive ground can inhibit process.

Designing Repeatable Self-Healing into Cementitious Materials

Designing self-healing into cementitious materials can open a new world of opportunities for resilient concrete infrastructure under service loading conditions. The self-healing process should be robust as well as repeatable, allowing for self-repair after multiple damage events. The repeatability poses great challenges when self-healing strategies mainly rely on the formation of low-strength c...

Self-Healing in Cementitious Materials—A Review

Concrete is very sensitive to crack formation. As wide cracks endanger the durability, repair may be required. However, these repair works raise the life-cycle cost of concrete as they are labor intensive and because the structure becomes in disuse during repair. In 1994, C. Dry was the first who proposed the intentional introduction of self-healing properties in concrete. In the following year...

Smart superabsorbent polymers for self-sealing and -healing of mortar

ID No: 54 Abstract: Concrete is an important building material, due to its ease to use and relatively low cost. However, the presence of cracks endangers the durability of concrete and can result in reinforcement corrosion since a pathway for harmful particles dissolved in fluids and gases is generated. Manual repair costs can go up to half of the annual construction budget. Instead, introducin...

Experimental investigation of adhesive-based self-healing of cementitious materials

This paper presents the results of a series of self-healing experiments conducted on reinforced mortar beams containing adhesive-filled glass reservoirs. An overview of the findings of the preliminary investigation stage of experiments is given in addition to the results of a parametric study which investigates the effect of the level of reinforcement and loading rate on the amount of self-heal...
